Sutra 2.8: dukha anushayi dvesha

  • dukha = suffering, pain, aversion
  • anushayi =
  • dvesha = aversion, pushing away, avoidance

Translated loosely into English;

Aversion is detachment from pain and suffering.

The affliction of aversion results from memory of pain and suffering, jealousy, envy, what one does NOT want and what one does NOT like.

To remove the colorings of aversion the student uses right knowledge, understands that the Self is not the thoughts, feelings, emotions or body sensations. The discerned one observes and witnesses only, remaining neutral.  Suffering is a result of karma, of this life or of a past life.
