Sutra 1.50: tajjah samskarah anya samskara paribandhi

  • tajjah = knowing, familiar, conquest of, arising, producing
  • samkara = deep impressions in sub-conscious, imprints
  • anya = otherwise, besides
  • samkara = deep impressions in sub-conscious, imprints
  • paribandhi = impeding, obstructing, reducing

Translated loosely into English;

Right knowledge reconditions the deep impressions in the mind and obstructs the creation of new depp imprints within the mind.

Subconscious imprint (samkaras) produced from knowing reconditions the conditioned mind and reduces the formation of new imprints.

Knowledge (rtambhara) obtained in super-reflective samapatti is so strong, clear and conscise, it deletes samkaras and replaces them with truth, wisdom and right knowledge. This is hopw the student becomes free from karma.

This is the conversion of mind to intellect. Fluctuations to stillness, mind acheives identity (samapatti), without discussion, direct realization.

In this state mind gravitates towards a focused one pointed state and wrong knowledge is replaced by right knowledge.
